Duty Deferral Participants Should Prepare for Audits

When Compliance Verification officers review records pertaining to Duties Relief and Bonded Warehouse, they will verify that any imported goods that haven’t been duty-paid are either in the warehouse, or have been exported.

Bonded Warehouse participants must pay duty and GST when the goods are ex-warehoused for Canadian consumption, and Duties Relief participants must pay duty and GST within 90 days of sale to the Canadian market, or within 60 days of export if further processed in Canada.

To prepare for the eventuality of an audit, participants must record and track all entries and activities related to duty deferral.
