Canada and Ecuador conclude free trade agreement negotiations.

Canada and Ecuador announced the conclusion of their Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations this week. Canada and Ecuador began negotiations for an FTA in April 2024.

The Canada-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement will reflect the shared interests of both nations. It will ensure that the benefits of trade reach businesses of all sizes, as well as Indigenous and women-owned enterprises. It also includes a strong chapter on labour protections, environmental safeguards, and ethical business standards.

Canada and Ecuador have complementary trade relations, with Canada importing mostly tropical fruits, flowers, cacao and seafood from Ecuador, and Ecuador importing mostly wheat, lentils and peas from Canada.

When the Canada-Ecuador Free Trade Agreement has entered into force, Canada will have trade agreements with all the countries on the South American Pacific coast.

The Agreement will come into force when the two countries complete their legal and regulatory processes.
