CFIA consultation on requirements to prevent the introduction of spotted lanternfly.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking feedback on a new proposed directive which outlines phytosanitary requirements to prevent the importation and spread of spotted lanternfly in Canada including specific domestic and import requirements for nursery stock and logs of deciduous species with bark.

The spotted lanternfly is not known to occur in Canada. However, due to its close proximity to the Canadian border and the volume of trade and traffic with infested areas of the United States, import and domestic requirements have been included in the future directive in anticipation of arrival and establishment.

The consultation opened on August 29, 2024 and closes on October 25, 2024.
