Consultation on allowing importation of honey bee packages from the United States

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) launched a consultation to help determine if identified risks can be mitigated to an acceptable level to allow importation of U.S. honey bee packages into Canada.

Canada does not currently allow honey bee package imports from the United States. Restrictions for importing bees into Canada are in place to help protect the Canadian bee population.

Importation of honey bee packages from the U.S. have been restricted since 1987 due to unacceptable levels of risk to the health of the Canadian bee population.

The CFIA is looking to gather feedback from industry, governments, the public, and other organizations or individuals with an interest in matters related to honey bee health.
