Section 232 Investigation on Copper Initiated

President Trump has ordered an investigation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act to assess the national security impact of copper imports. This review will cover all forms of copper, including raw mined copper, refined copper, copper concentrates, alloys, scrap, and derivatives. The investigation will evaluate U.S. defense, energy, and infrastructure needs, the ability of domestic production to meet demand, the role of foreign supply chains, export restrictions and the impact of global trade practices on industry competitiveness. The Secretary of Commerce will consult with relevant federal agencies to analyze these risks and determine whether policy measures such as tariffs, quotas, or incentives are necessary to protect national security. final report outlining findings and recommendations is due to the President by November 2025.
