Steel products classified under Chapter 73 will be subject to a 25% tariff, while steel derivatives listed in Chapters 84 and 94 will have the 25% duty applied only to their steel content. Similarly, aluminum products in Chapter 76 will be subject to a 25% tariff, with aluminum derivatives across ten listed chapters having the 25% duty assessed only on their aluminum content.
Countries already subject to the 25% Section 232 tariff on steel will continue to be affected at that rate. Countries currently facing a 10% aluminum tariff will be subject to an increase to 25%, effective March 12.
All existing exclusions, exemptions, and agreements for steel and aluminum will end on March 12, making the 25% tariff applicable to all countries.
The effective date for steel and aluminum derivatives will be announced once the Secretary of Commerce confirms that adequate systems are in place to fully, efficiently, and expediently process and collect tariff revenue for covered articles.
