USMX Ready to Resume Negotiations to Avoid Port Disruptions.

We wish to update you on the ongoing contract negotiations between the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. (USMX) and the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA).

The current contract expires on September 30, 2024, and recent notifications from the ILA indicate the potential for a strike if a new agreement is not reached.

During the week of July 29, 2024, USMX and some of its members received “Section 8(d)” notices, which state that the ILA and ILA Locals will not extend the contract beyond September 30, 2024. This notice is required to start the sixty-day cooling-off period required before a union can go on strike after a contract expires. The ILA’s 8(d) notices also state that they are prepared to continue bargaining with USMX and/or the Local Employers.

 What to Expect:

The USMX has stated that they will continue to pursue additional meetings with the ILA to work toward a new contract with the ILA in advance of the September 30th deadline.
